Update - 10 July: Gladesville Reserve Multisport Facility

We have now commenced Stage 2 of these works.

Stage two involves the construction of a new Multisport Facility on the northern side of Gladesville Reserve, with access from Huntleys Point Road.

Council has awarded the tender for the construction of the new Gladesville Reserve Multisport facility to 2020 Projects Pty Ltd.

The building, which will be named the Paul Manton Pavilion, will include publicly accessible toilet facilities, female and male changerooms and storage areas.

The single-storey building will also include:

  • A flexible multipurpose hall
  • A servery kiosk for social gatherings
  • Publicly accessible amenities
  • Sports changerooms and storage
  • Environmentally conscious features like solar panels and inclusive design elements such as female changerooms

The facility is expected to be ready to open early 2026.

Background:

Gladesville Reserve is part of the Henley Precinct, which has been used for community recreation since 1920. The northern part of the reserve is focused on active sports and is divided into two areas. The upper area has a basketball/netball court, skate park, and parking. The lower area includes new playing fields, cricket nets, and a playground.

In July 2023, construction works were undertaken to demolish the old amenities block, playground and cricket net in the northern part of Gladesville Reserve as part of the project to upgrade the precinct.

Works on the Reserve also included:

  • Improvements to the turf and playing surface including adding two additional training areas to the soccer field
  • installation of a new Sand Slit Drainage System will help to minimise surface water ponding, which often occurs during periods of heavy rain.
  • removal of cricket wicket and installation of a new state-of-the-art cricket practice net
  • new sports ground lighting poles with higher lighting levels to match the professional play standard of 100 lux

This $2.3 million project is co-funded through the NSW Government Office of Sport – Sport Election Commitments Program and the Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting Upgrades Grant Program.

The Henley Masterplan was adopted by Council on 24 June 2024, which includes plans for a wild play playground at Gladesville Reserve and other updates.

In November 2024, Council carried out drainage works which involved the construction of a retaining wall, installing rock drainage and constructing a stormwater swale.
