Hunter's Hill Council has prepared a draft Integrated Transport Strategy, covering all suburbs in the local government area. At its meeting on 29 July, Council resolved to place the draft Strategy on Public Exhibition.

The Strategy will deliver a set of objectives and actions needed to achieve the municipality’s vision of a connected, integrated, and sustainable transport network that is safe, accessible, efficient, and reliable.

It will provide long-term direction and guidance in integrated transport and land-use planning. This will help Council make informed decisions about future investments, strategic planning, and policy direction, which will ensure future growth of the LGA meets the diverse needs of our residents, visitors, and workers.

Community consultation and feedback is an integral part of the development of an Integrated Transport Strategy. An extensive stakeholder engagement process was undertaken to inform the strategy.

The community is now invited to have their say on the draft Integrated Transport Strategy by filling out the form below. View the draft Strategy here.

Feedback will be received until 5pm on Thursday 19 September.

Feedback from community members who took part in an online survey in December and January was considered in the development of the draft Strategy.

Objectives:

There are five key objectives that will help bring to life our vision for a well-connected travel network in Hunters Hill, which are outlined below:

  1. To manage our road networks so that they are safe, well maintained and there is a reduction in congestion:
    • Provide traffic and transport programs to make roads safer for all users, including cyclists and pedestrians.
    • Allocate (wherever possible) more road space for sustainable transport modes (electric, cycle, public transport)
    • Review speed limits
    • Review and support new transport technology (electric, charging, speed limiters, car share)
  2. To liaise with State Government agencies to improve public transport so that it is reliable, frequent, safe, and connects people to where they want to go:

    • Ensuring bus routes meet the needs of the community.
    • Ensuring bus and ferry stops have enough commuter parking.
    • Providing up-to-date travel information and links.
    • Providing cycle banks at key public transport node stops.
  3. To make walking and cycling the preferred transport choice for short trips around the LGA. This will be achieved by the provision of improved:

    • Cycle paths
    • Pedestrian crossings
    • Cycle parking
    • Wayfinding and signs
    • Lighting
    • Footpaths and walking routes
  4. To provide a transport network that allows people of all abilities to travel. This will be achieved by:

    • Encouraging children to walk and cycle to schools.
    • Reviewing access around schools, public transport, and major destinations.
    • Reviewing parking around schools, ferry wharves, shopping precincts, and the like.
    • Advocating for more equitable, affordable, and accessible transport for all users.
  5. To provide land use and sustainable transport choices and provide for concentration of development in high activity zones and shopping/commercial precincts by:

    • Ensuring development is supported in key activity zones.
    • Ensuring any new development supports sustainable travel and includes sustainable and innovative technologies.
    • Ensuring new developments provide accessible and safe transport options.
