Have your say on the draft concept plan for traffic calming devices from Alexandra Street to Valentia Street along Alexander Street, Ferry Street, Woolwich Road, Gale Street and The Point Road.

The concept plans aim to help reduce on-road vehicle speeds and to improve pedestrian amenity.

Council has been considering the design of a number of traffic calming options in the following locations:

Site 1

Alexandra Street at Hunters Hill P.S

Alexandra Street at Stanley Road

Alexandra Street at Ellesmere Avenue

Upgrade crossing to wombat crossing.

Continuation of the footpath across Stanley Road and Ellesmere Road.

Funding approved for detail design and construction under the Road Safety Grant by June 2026.

Site 3 and Site 4

Alexandra Street at Ady Street

Ferry Street at Alexandra Street

Wombat crossing on Alexandra Street at Ady, median island, refuge, kerb extension.

This proposal will evoke change to motorists’ behaviour by forcing motorists to slow down in a shopping area. Safety is improved for cyclists.

Site 5

Ferry Street/Foss Street/Ambrose Street

Wombat crossing at the existing refuge and footpath continuation across Foss Street and Ambrose Street.

The current refuge is inadequate for pedestrians. A wombat will improve safety for pedestrians and slow vehicles, improving the road environment for cyclists.

Continuation of the footpath across Ambrose Street and Foss Street creates a walking connection, improving the local amenity.

Site 15

Woolwich Road/Franki Avenue

Wombat crossing/intersection improvements option a, b, c, further explored by survey and design.

The existing road hump is confused for a raised pedestrian crossing, causing a safety hazard for pedestrians. The raised crossing will also slow vehicles for cyclists.

These plans have been workshopped with Council, and three revised concept plans have been developed for:

  1. Site 1
  2. Sites 3, 4 and 5,
  3. Site 15

The 28-day public exhibition period will run from Tuesday, 28 October to Tuesday, 25 November.

Submissions will be received up until 5pm on Tuesday, 25 November 2025 by filling in the online form below.
