Boronia Precinct LATM Plan
Council has been successful in receiving $3.5 million in funding to create a 40km/h local area traffic zone in the Boronia precinct.
The Safer Roads Program grant from Transport for NSW will be used to implement a local area traffic management (LATM) plan that will improve traffic and road safety in the Boronia precinct.
Traffic calming devices will be installed in local streets inside the boundary of Pittwater, Ryde and Park Road and High Street as displayed below and within the Boronia Precinct Local Area Traffic Management Plan. The speed will be reduced to 40km/h on these streets.
The identified streets in the Boronia precinct are often used by motorists who are looking to avoid the main road network, but are not local road users (rat running). This causes extra stress on these identified local streets in Boronia, decreasing local amenity and increasing safety concerns.
The project aims to change driver behaviour by installing physical speed barriers such as speed humps and raised pedestrian crossings, and reinforcing that this is a local street precinct where lower safer speeds are appropriate.
Low speed zones lead to broader benefits in creating an environment that supports pedestrian activity and urban amenity.
At its Meeting on 24 February 2025, Council resolved to endorse the proposed traffic calming devices mentioned above within the Boronia Precinct Local Area Traffic Management Plan, and to place the proposal on public exhibition for a period of 28 days.
We are now seeking community feedback on the project from Thursday 3 April to 5pm Sunday 4 May via the online form and mapping tool below.
A community meeting is also scheduled to be held at the Boronia Park Sports and Community Facility on Tuesday 29 April from 6pm. Booking are required and can be made online here.
All feedback will be collated and will be used to inform the detailed design.
Council is committed to ensuring the community has their say on any proposed changes to traffic conditions on local streets. The community will be informed of the final detailed design prior to construction which is expected to take place in 2026.
The projected must be completed by mid-2027 as per the grant agreement with Transport for NSW.
