Hunter's Hill Council is partnering with ChargePost and NRMA who have secured significant funding to roll-out 14 publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging ports across our community over the next 12 months. There are 28 total marked parking spaces proposed that are associated with the 14 ports.

The Hunters Hill LGA is currently ranked 5th highest for the rate of EV uptake in the state. This is quite significant for a small council.

This engagement is to understand the community’s views on the proposed locations and the changing parking controls associated with these spaces.

The new chargers will range from 22 kilowatts to 60 kilowatts and will include power pole-mounted and “kiosk” charging stations. They will be installed at kerbside locations and a selected Council carpark throughout the LGA to help facilitate our community to transition away from petrol powered cars to EVs.

The provision of public charging is essential in Hunters Hill as many of our residents do not have suitable access to off-street parking.

All chargers are likely to be installed by June 2026 and will be open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All the proposed EV charging stations are fully funded by our partners and the NSW Government EV grants program. There is no direct cost to Council for this infrastructure; a huge WIN for our community.

How did we get here?

In December 2024 Council adopted the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) Policy. The Policy sets the conditions around where EVCI will be supported in the LGA and the approval pathways for installation.

In January 2025, the NSW Government announced funding had been awarded to NRMA under their Fast Charging Grants (Round 3).

In July 2025, the NSW Government announced funding had been awarded to ChargePost under their Kerbside Charging Grants (Round 2).

Council agreed to partner with ChargePost and NRMA during their application stages to facilitate installing public charging across Hunters Hill LGA, recognising the immense need for this publicly accessible infrastructure.

Proposed chargers

In total there are 14 charging ports in 13 locations proposed with 28 associated carparking spaces. All proposed parking spaces will be signed as designated for EVs only while charging.

The locations of the proposed EV chargers within the Hunters Hill LGA can be found on the Ideas board. (Please note, images of chargers used on this page are for demonstrative purposes only).

The proposed location plan has been developed with consideration of:

  • Capacity of the electrical grid – not all poles have the capacity by Ausgrid to support charging
  • Areas with high EV uptake and low access to off-street parking (the Hunters Hill LGA is ranked 5th highest proportionally for EV uptake)
  • Site selection criteria to minimise inconvenience for residents (e.g. avoiding placing ports directly outside houses wherever possible) and
  • Safety and accessibility requirements
